Get to know Auckland inside out
Central City
Auckland City is a bustling hub of commerce, shopping, culture and cuisine. Built on the edge of the Waitemata Harbour, with the North Shore a short ferry ride away, the city blocks lead down to the waterfront.
A commercial hub since the mid-19th century, you can still find Auckland’s Victorian and Edwardian character in several inner-city buildings, including places you can meet and stay.
That city feeling
Old lanes, arcades and tucked-away places sit alongside dramatic modern architecture. Auckland’s landmark Sky Tower is just a short walk from the waterfront restaurants of Viaduct Harbour.
A proud heritage
Auckland Museum has an international reputation, and not just for its unparalleled collection of Polynesian, and particularly Maori, artefacts. Its seasonal exhibitions have drawn worldwide acclaim.
Shop – till you drop
You’ll find every top brand name, and a few unexpected bargains, too. High Street and Lorne Street are a shopper’s playground.
Club class
Nightlife, clubbing, the pub scene, live music, casinos, theatre, shows – how late can you stay up?
Get out more
The city centre is a launch pad for adventure around the region. You can sail an America’s Cup yacht around the Gulf from Viaduct Harbour, kayak the Waitemata or head out to the dormant volcano of Rangitoto Island.
